ORGANIZING YOUR MAKEUP AND TOOLS By: Luz Vargas If one of your resolutions for this year is to get organized, this month is the perfect time to start organizing your beauty world. To improve or start a new beauty routine takes some work and organization, is not just about shopping for new products or for that fabulous lipstick you saw on the cover of a magazine. In this article I’m going to help you with some of my personal tips to get you organized. This task is going to take some self knowledge, time and inversion. But the rewards are going to be immediate, you are going to be able to wear everything you have, match your makeup with your wardrobe and find your makeup tools in times of rush. But one of the most important things is that you are going to be able to play with your makeup, look renewed and stay organized for the rest of the year! 1. - Let’s start organizing your products. Take a look at all that you have, smell all your products. Toss anything that you’ve had for two years of longer. Toss everything that has musty odor or wired color. 2. - Throw lipsticks, pencils, shades, powders and foundations that don't do anything good to your skin tone. 3. - Throw out brushes that are falling apart and sponges that are dirty. Clean with special liquid all your brushes, it is important to keep clean your tools and makeup. As a result the product will deliver the right color and texture you want to achieve. If you can, invest in brushes to apply light and dark colors. 4. - Now, you only have what you need and is the time for some shopping. First I suggest you to shop for a special case or cosmetics bag, there are some beautiful ones in stores, you can choose any color or print you want. This will make you feel inspired and exited. I like makeup cases they have many compartments and is easy to find things in times of rush. Some people have special makeup drawers in their restroom, but is always good to remember to keep cosmetics away from humidity, this will make your products texture last longer and odor free. 5. - Basic makeup tools. Sponge, velour powder puff, shadow brush, liner brush, blush brush, brow brush and tweezers -a most have-. If you want to achieve a more elaborated makeup, shop for this tools, powder brush, concealer brush, lip brush, eyelash curler, and contour eye brush, bronzing powder and brush blender brush. 6 - Stock your case/bag with Q tips, organic cotton rounds, sponges, eye makeup remover and eye drops. 7.- Once you have everything clean and ready, look for the best place in your new case or bag to organize all your makeup. One of the things I like about cases is that you can make your own compartments by using the separators that comes with the makeup case. Also cases protect product from humidity. Wet environments also develop odors in brushes and makeup. Keeping dry and clean your tools and products will make you free of allergies. 8. - Find a place where you can place big brushes, medium and small. Keep them visible all the times. Make an extra space for tweezers, sharper, and eye brow brush. Make a special room for sponges, Q tips and cotton rounds, put them in little zipper bags to make them free of pollution. 9.- Organizing your make up. I like to use the top part of my case to storage lipsticks, the best thing is to organize them by color, I like to start with the colors I wear the most, naturals, pinks and corals, then I do reds and dark colors at the end. Same thing, with eye shadows, place them from natural to dark colors. Since I don't use pencils I have extra space for mascaras, I have brown and black. 10.- Then in the bigger space make two separations and place your foundation, powder, bronzer. In the oder side place all that you don't use often. Some cases have great compartments on the side. These areas are excellent to place lipsticks that I you wear less, pencils and lashes. Make a separation for eye drops and makeup remover. Keep liquids separate from tools and cosmetics.
One of the best things of keeping your makeup and tools organized is that it allows you to know what you have and what to shop for; this will save you time, stress and money.MZ
