This year the Mayor of the City of San Antonio Julian Castro in solicitation of Fashion Group International (FGI) proclaimed October 5-10 2009 to be "Fashion Week San Antonio 2009" to highlight San Antonio's Contributions to the Fashion Industry.

FGI is a Global, Non-Profit organization whose mission is to be the pre-eminent authority on the business of Fashion and Design and help it's members become more effective in their careers.

The Fashion Week SA featured informative seminars, hands-on workshops, exhibits and festive meet-n-greet parties. The week ended on Saturday October 10 with the award winning Going Green runway show combined with the Night of Stars Gala and the "2009 Trendsetter Awards" for industry leaders and visionary designers, closing with a Silent Auction.

This year the "2009 Trendsetter Awards" were for Sheila Masterso as Desing Visionary, The Fashion Advocate award was for Michael Quintanilla, The Industry Leader award was for Julian Gold and The Rising Star award was for Claudia Lobao.

During the FWSA I attended the Fall Trend Report and the cocktail kick-off party presented by Michael Quintanilla at the Woman's Club and his Fall Accessory Report at Julian Gold. Both informative seminars were attended by fashion and art students whom are looking for learning opportunities to develop their own creativity to become successful in the highly competitive world of the Fashion Industry. The interest in the media was notorious, and this will create opportunities that will educate, inspire and challenge student’s and all the people involved in the Fashion business in San Antonio.

The Fashion Week SA is in their early stages of grow, the base is already set by Fashion Group International (FGI) as platform for growing and by San Antonio Designers whom have been working hard to develop a fashion scene for themselves and future generations, the future seems to be promising without doubt. Next year more Designers, business and creative people will become involved in an event that will put San Antonio in the eyes of the Fashion Industry.
